  • The Promotion of Gender Equality

    The Third Annual Session will focus on "The Promotion of Gender Equality " which will be the theme of the Third Annual Session Conference in 2007.

    The six committees of the General Assembly, the Security Council and the ECOSOC will, of course, also be in session during the week, each forum under the control of Student Officers from many different schools and nationalities and headed by Secretary General.

    We look forward to welcoming all of you to the Third Annual Session of THIMUN-Singapore.

    Issues on the Agenda

    Below are the issues on the agenda for THIMUN-Singapore 2007:

    GENERAL ASSEMBLY

    1st Committee (Disarmament and International Security)

    The situation in South East Asia; progress and cooperation in fashioning a region of peace, freedom, democracy and development.

    The role of diamonds in fuelling conflict: breaking the link between illicit transaction of rough diamonds and armed conflict as a contribution to prevention and settlement of conflicts.

    Maintenance of international security - good-neighbourliness, stability and development in South-Eastern Europe.

    Consolidation of peace through practical disarmament measures.

    2nd Committee (Economic and Legal)

    Economic development in land-locked Asian countries.

    Effects of international migration on development.

    South-South cooperation: economic and technical cooperation among developing countries.

    Follow-up to and implementation of the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Islands Developing States.

    3rd Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural)

    Recognition of and compensation for women compelled into sexual exploitation during time of war.

    Child labour and the exploitation of children in newly industrializing countries.

    Question of the use of death penalty by member states.

    Supervision and accountability for the timely fulfillment of post natural disaster aid and recovery projects.

    4th Committee (Special Political and Decolonization)

    Question of statehood for the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza.

    Admission of Taiwan to the United Nations.

    Review and revitalization of the mandate rules governing United Nations Peacekeeping forces.

    Implementation of the recommendations contained in the report of the Secretary-General on the causes of conflict and promotion of durable peace and sustainable development in Africa.

    5th Committee (Administration and Budgetary)

    Strengthening international cooperation and technical assistance in promoting the implementation of the universal conventions and protocols related to terrorism within the framework of the activities of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

    Improving the financial situation of the United Nations.

    Financing of the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire.

    Financing of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the Middle East; United Nations Interim Forces.

    6th Committee (Administration and Budgetary)

    Responsibility of States for internationally gender-bias practices perpetrated by international industries.

    Reconsideration of the definition and status of diplomatic immunity for those having diplomatic status in relation to civil criminal acts.

    Rights, status and protection of stateless persons.

    Question of compensation to civilian victims or their surviving heirs of armed conflict.

    SECURITY COUNCIL

    The situation in Myanmar and the protection of human rights and minority groups.

    The situation and the question of peace in Sri Lanka.

    Question of peace and stability in Lebanon.

    The situation in Darfur, Sudan.

    ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

    New models of education to empower to poorest peoples of LDCs with the necessary skills and knowledge.

    Promotion of the use of renewable energy sources by developing countries.

    Economic development through empowerment of women.

    Promotion of women's contribution to fostering a culture of peace.

    Protecting children from sexual exploitation by the so-called "sex tourism".

    Minimizing social dislocation in India as that country experiences extraordinary economic growth.
